The Origin Story
-
During the COVID-19 pandemic, my wife Uadani and I started U.C. Good News—a simple video series to bring hope, faith, and connection to families stuck at home. Our core mission was to encourage and nourish households, helping transform houses into good homes during an uncertain time. But that desire to see households transformed into good homes took a physical turn when the need to create a space for my mother to age in place emerged.
To honor my mother, I rolled up my sleeves and converted our detached garage into a genuine, welcoming home—mastering every stage of construction hands-on, from design, framing, and plumbing to fine finish work. That transformative experience laid the foundation for U.C. Good Homes, a spinoff company born out of that same heart of service, specializing in high-quality home remodeling. We bring intentional care, technical craftsmanship, and purpose to every space we remodel. Read our full origin story below to learn more about our journey, faith, and hands-on dedication.

1. Birthed from Purpose: Our Foundation of Care
U.C. Good Homes is a spin-off of a concept birthed from a simple, powerful idea during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unable to meet with our youth group in person, my wife, Uadani, and I set out to create visual content to keep our youth and their families engaged with Scripture and one another. As the world was flooded with bad news, we developed a "newscast" to counter the noise, bringing hope and joyful expectation of what God was doing in spite of the challenges around us. Using the initials of our names and with no prior video editing experience, we created U.C. Good News—a show where "You See" the good news found in the Bible. Our mission was simple: nourish households stuck at home through content that inspires hope, helping transform houses into good homes regardless of external circumstances.
A few years later, this same heart of service drove us to our next major project. Driven by a straightforward goal—to create a space where my mother could age in place—I embarked on a mission to convert my detached garage into a genuine, welcoming home. This was not just about creating an acceptable living space; it was about honoring family and creating a true home. This simple idea quickly blossomed into an immersive, hands-on journey of learning and dedication that laid the groundwork for our professional craft today.
2. Mastery of the Craft: Hands-On Experience You Can Trust
True confidence is built on real-world experience, and we have mastered construction from the ground up. Through manual labor by day and theory learning by night, I personally navigated the complexities of design, plans, budgeting, permitting, inspections, and utility company collaborations. From digging trenches for new water lines and connecting to the city sewer, to upgrading electrical panels and running new service lines, I gained deep, comprehensive expertise. I poured concrete, framed walls, replaced rotting roof rafters, vaulted ceilings, and installed skylights. I roughed in and completed the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, followed by insulation, drywall, tile, cabinets, and meticulous finish work. I transformed an old two-car garage into a beautiful one-bedroom, one-bathroom home complete with a laundry room, kitchen, and living room.
Since then, I have continued to refine this expertise through extensive projects in our own home to accommodate our growing family—from removing a load-bearing wall to create an open layout, updating the kitchen, flooring, and paint for our firstborn son, to upgrading our HVAC, spray foam insulation, roof, and water heater as we prepared for our second child.
While our foundation is rooted in this deep, personal, hands-on construction experience, U.C. Good Homes operates as a general contractor. This hands-on background equips us with a unique advantage: it allows us to lead, oversee, and manage professional subcontractors with absolute authority and effective communication, ensuring every project is executed with the highest standards and technical precision.3. The True Standard: Why “Good”
"Good" is often an underrated term, overshadowed by flashier words like "great" or "excellent." But while those words sound impressive, they fall short of the true depth and intent behind what is truly "good."
When God created all things with His word, He looked at what He had made and called it "good." This was not a passive statement of approval, but a reflection of deep, theological significance: He was thoughtfully and intentionally providing for His creation. God was preparing a space for us that met every need—a space designed for us to receive His love and, in turn, love Him and one another.
This profound standard of "good" is the guiding mission for U.C. Good Homes. It represents a quiet satisfaction that goes far beyond quality materials and skilled labor. For us, "good" encompasses functionality, beauty, and the relationships fostered within the home. Just as a house built on the Rock will stand, we aim for every project to be "good" in this intentional way—reflecting an act of provision where lasting memories are made and relationships thrive. At the end of every project, our goal is for you to experience that silent nod and quiet satisfaction, looking around your home and knowing it is truly good.
